Priyadarshan claims Akshay Kumar paid Rs. 10 crore for ‘Hera Pheri’ franchise

Priyadarshan claims Akshay Kumar paid Rs. 10 crore for ‘Hera Pheri’ franchise

Paresh Rawal’s unexpected departure from the ‘Hera Pheri’ franchise has ignited fresh debate surrounding the film series, with Priyadarshan making a bold claim that Akshay Kumar purchased the complete rights to the franchise for Rs. 10 crore.

As tensions mount over Kumar and Rawal’s ongoing legal dispute—prompted by Rawal’s sudden exit from ‘Hera Pheri 3’, reports suggest that Firoz Nadiadwala, producer of the first two instalments (‘Hera Pheri’ (2000) and ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ (2006)), has served a legal notice to the actors and director, asserting his ownership of the intellectual property rights (IPR) tied to the franchise and its characters.

Addressing the controversy in an interview with Mid-Day, Priyadarshan dismissed Nadiadwala’s claims, stating, “Akshay acquired the full rights to the Hera Pheri franchise for Rs. 10 crore from Firoz Nadiadwala, who produced the first two films. This applies not just to Hera Pheri 3, but to the entire franchise. I know this for a fact, as I have seen the paperwork.”
